The Challenge

Due to the high costs of maintenance, evolution, and scalability, the client needed to modernize its messaging engine, originally built in C++ more than ten years ago, which connects the IVR system with the rest of the bank. This application handles customer requests made through the IVR, such as checking account activity or opening a fixed-term deposit.

The Solution

We developed a new platform and built a new messaging engine to replace the legacy C++ application, enabling the solution to scale without relying on specialists with specific legacy expertise. In addition to supporting the IVR, the new platform became a communication layer for any application or digital channel that needs to interact with the bank's core systems.

The solution was built using Akka.NET, leveraging its asynchronous actor-based architecture to deliver high performance in high-concurrency environments.

Benefits

  • 99% test coverage, simplifying regression testing and error detection.
  • An actor-based architecture that isolates failures, preventing cascading issues that could affect system performance.
  • Responsive performance, even under heavy workloads.
  • A modern architecture and technology stack that reduced the learning curve and shortened maintenance and evolution cycles.
